Sherman County, OR Gravel and Landscape Rock Delivery
Oregon Rock Supply provides gravel, stone and aggregate delivery in Sherman County, OR. The working season here runs long, but it is bounded by hard frost at one end and summer dust at the other.
3/4 minus is the crushed rock to know first. It grades from 3/4 inch down to fines, so it compacts and locks up under driveways, parking pads and shop floors.
Order online and a dump truck tips the load on site.
Ground Conditions Across Sherman County
Across the Columbia River Gorge and Plateau, Columbia River Basalt flows sit under wind-laid loess. The wheat ground carries deep silt, and the soil turns shallow where the basalt comes near the surface.
Precipitation across the Columbia River Gorge and Plateau runs about 8 to 15 inches a year. The trouble is not volume.
Loess turns greasy when wet, sheds water fast when dry, and runs off frozen ground in winter.
That shapes what you need under a drive or a pad. A minus rock that compacts gives you a surface the silt below cannot swallow, and it holds together through a wet spell.
Water for compaction usually has to be hauled on the plateau. Plan your build around that, and around a season that closes when frost sets in.
Materials Delivered in Sherman County
Material is grouped here by family: base, washed stone, sand, soil and decorative. Each product page lists what the material is and what it is for.
Base materials
3/4 Minus is the standard Oregon base, also called 3/4-0 or 3/4 inch minus. It carries its fines, so it compacts into a firm surface under driveways, parking pads, shop floors and shed bases.
Oregon specifies base material by top size with a minus notation. The Oregon Standard Specifications for Construction set dense-graded base aggregate in Section 02630.10 at sizes of 2 1/2 inch - 0, 2 inch - 0, 1 1/2 inch - 0, 1 inch - 0 and 3/4 inch - 0.
Section 00641.10 states that base aggregate is dense-graded unless otherwise specified.
Quarry Run, also called pit run, is raw rock straight from the pit or quarry face. It is not crushed material.
Use it to build up soft ground and raise grade before a graded base goes on top.
Fill Dirt, also called structural fill, raises grade and backfills low ground before a base course goes on. Driveway Gravel surfaces an existing drive or tops a compacted base.
Washed stone and drainage rock
Drain Rock, also called washed drain rock or 1 1/2 clean, is washed and open so water moves through it. It suits French drains, curtain drains, footing drains, drywells and downspout runs.
3/4" Crushed Stone, also called 3/4 clean or 3/4 open-graded rock, has the fines screened out. It works in drainage trenches, retaining wall backfill and construction entrances.
Section 02630.11 covers open-graded aggregate, which is the clean, fines-free material. RipRap, also called slope protection rock, armors stream banks, culvert outlets, pond edges and cut slopes against winter runoff.
Oregon riprap is specified by class, from Class 50 up to Class 2000.
Sand and soil
Washed Sand, also called concrete sand, is washed so it drains instead of holding water. It beds pipe, levels under slabs and flatwork, mixes concrete and works as arena footing.
Top Soil, also called screened loam, serves lawns, bed prep and finish grading. Oregon yards screen topsoil because the ground it comes off is silty and clods up when wet.
Garden Soil fills raised beds, vegetable plots and planting areas where native silt or clay is too tight to plant into. Shredded Mulch, which Oregon customers call bark dust, goes on beds and tree rings.
Decorative stone
3/8" Natural Pea Gravel is a smooth rounded stone for paths, play areas, dog runs and drainage. Willamette River Rock is rounded water-worn stone for decorative beds, borders and dry creek beds.
Delivery Across Sherman County
You order online and choose a quantity by the ton or by the yard. Each product page has a calculator if you want to size the load before checkout, and you pick a delivery date at checkout.
A dump truck then tips the load on site in one pile. The driver does not spread or place it, so have the drop area clear and reachable before the truck arrives.
Delivery covers Sherman County, including Wasco, Moro and Grass Valley. Ground that is soft from recent rain or frozen hard is worth thinking about ahead of the drop.
Choosing the Right Material
Wasco County and Gilliam County sit on the same ground as Sherman County: Columbia River Basalt under wind-laid loess, deep silt on the wheat ground and shallow soil where the basalt nears the surface.
Because the ground is the same, the base and drainage choices carry over. A minus rock that compacts is the base under a drive or pad, and a clean, open stone is the drainage layer where water needs to move.
The deciding question is whether you need material that locks up or material that stays open. Minus rock holds a surface.
Clean rock lets water through.
